Idaho Secretary of State Affirms Election Security in Bonner and Boundary Counties Ahead of Primary

Idaho Secretary of State Phil McGrane issued a statement affirming the security and integrity of the state’s election processes as voters in Bonner and Boundary counties prepared to cast ballots in the May 19th primary election.

McGrane praised the work of Bonner County Clerk Michael Rosedale and Boundary County Clerk Glenda Poston, stating that both officials work to ensure every eligible voter can participate and every vote is counted accurately.

The Secretary of State referenced a public commitment signed by all 44 of Idaho’s county clerks before the 2024 presidential election. That document outlined shared responsibilities for maintaining accessible, secure elections and introduced the 12 Principles of Idaho Elections, which remain in effect.

Idaho’s election security measures include voter identification requirements, signature verification, maintenance of voter rolls, paper ballots, public testing of equipment, and post-election audits. McGrane emphasized that these are not abstract concepts but actual practices implemented across the state.

The Secretary of State highlighted VoteIdaho.gov as a resource where citizens can register to vote, request absentee ballots, locate polling places, review their voter records, and access personalized sample ballots.

McGrane noted the significance of primary elections in Idaho, where many consequential decisions affecting local communities are made in the May primary rather than the November general election.

The statement comes as Idaho approaches the state’s primary election day. McGrane has served as Idaho’s Secretary of State since January 2023, having previously served as Ada County Clerk from 2019 to 2022.

McGrane holds degrees in philosophy, law, and public administration and describes himself as a fourth-generation Idahoan.
