Bonner County Volunteers Help Idaho Surpass 250,000 Service Acts Ahead of America’s 250th Anniversary

As America celebrates its 250th birthday, Idahoans complete 250,000 — and counting — acts of service

Idaho residents have completed more than 250,000 volunteer service projects as part of a statewide effort to mark the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary, with Bonner County quilters among those contributing to the milestone.

As of Sunday morning, volunteers across Idaho had logged 264,455 service projects through the Idaho Service Challenge website, according to the Idaho State Treasurer’s Office.

In Bonners Ferry, a nonprofit quilting group donated blankets to local veterans, hospice patients, and an international relief organization as part of the challenge.

The statewide initiative, organized by America250 Idaho Ambassadors, asked residents to perform community service and document their work at IdahoKindness.com. More than 45 organizations have participated since the challenge began in January, working alongside JustServe to connect volunteers with community needs.

Service projects have been recorded in 166 Idaho cities. Idaho Falls alone accounted for 100,000 logged acts of service.

Nearly 4,000 projects directly supported veterans and military families, including care packages, cemetery flag placements, home repairs, thank-you cards, and visits to assisted living facilities.

Jessica Cooper Whiting, co-chairwoman of the America250 Idaho Service Challenge, said the effort represents a commitment between neighbors that extends beyond the anniversary celebration.

Idaho State Treasurer Julie Ellsworth said the initiative aimed to unite communities and demonstrate the impact of collective action.

Organizers plan to announce regional celebration events recognizing volunteers and participating organizations. Residents may continue logging service projects through July 4 and beyond.
