North Idaho College submitted a special report to its accreditor asking the NWCCU to reduce the show cause sanction and bring the college back from the brink of accreditation loss.
The report documented progress on several issues identified by the accreditor. The board established that NIC has one president, Nick Swayne, and allowed interim president Greg South’s contract to expire. NIC resolved multiple lawsuits, including dropping a Supreme Court appeal of Swayne’s reinstatement.
‘It would be devastating to the students of NIC, to the North Idaho communities, and to the entire state of Idaho if NIC were to lose its accreditation,’ the report stated. ‘Simply put, losing accreditation would hurt students the most.’
The NWCCU was scheduled to conduct a final campus visit in October 2024 and prepare a report for commission review in January 2025. Federal rules require the sanctions to be resolved by April 2025 or accreditation must be withdrawn.
