Election results to be audited in eight counties

Idaho’s most populous county will be among eight counties facing post-primary election audits next week after a random drawing determined which jurisdictions will face a state-level spot check.

State Controller Brandon Woolf conducted the selection using a bingo cage, pulling tile No. 17 to land Ada County in the mix. “Sorry, Trent,” Woolf said, addressing Ada County Clerk Trent Tripple.

Franklin, Canyon, Lemhi, Gooding, Owyhee, Butte, and Power counties will join Ada County in opening their election records to state auditors. The counties were chosen through the random drawing process.

Idaho Secretary of State Phil McGrane said the audits serve two purposes: confirming the accuracy of reported results and ensuring county election offices are following state law.

Post-election audits of this kind are a routine part of Idaho’s election oversight process. Supporters of such measures view them as straightforward verification tools that give the public confidence in reported outcomes.

The audits come as North Idaho voters look ahead to the November general election. Candidates across the region are now set for contested November races following the conclusion of the primary cycle.

The findings from the county audits are expected to be available after state officials complete their review next week.
